How can we Trust these Bible Predictions?

So you've looked at the time line which shows how the Bible says events may unfold in the future. But you may well be thinking, why can I trust these Bible predictions? Well there are many reasons, including the fact that when you properly study the subject of where do we come from, you realise that the theory of evolution by chance mutations has so many holes in it that it simply doesn't hold water – and the only rational explanation is that a divine creator made us and all the earth. But that's another topic altogether, so the reason that we'll explore here is the fact that the Bible contains a number of prophecies which have been shown to have later on come true. The main one that we're going to look at is the return of the Jews to the land of Israel, and you may be aware that this happened in 1948 after a period of about 1900 years.

History of the Jews

The Jews have had a remarkable history. Between AD 66 and AD 135 the Romans completely destroyed the Jews in the area we now call Israel (Destruction of Jerusalem in AD70). They were so thorough that they actually ploughed up the site of Jerusalem, then erased its name from their maps, and then sent every Jew who they hadn't killed into exile through out the world. And those exiled Jews found that whatever country they went into they were hated, treated as an inferior race and made to live in ghettos. And for 1800 years they were persecuted, massacred, or made to flee for their lives from one country to another. Yet miraculously, somehow they survived it all and still remained as a nation in their own right, but without an actual country to live in. And then, at the end of the 19th century, a few Jews began to trickle back to their homeland, and this flow increased until in 1948 the Jews felt sufficiently powerful to proclaim their independence as being the country of Israel, and Israel, tiny persecuted Israel, was back on the world map. Interestingly, the huge, all-powerful Roman Empire which tried to wipe them out had disappeared long ago. And another interesting point is that between the end of the 19th century and 1948, Hitler's Nazis tried again to wipe out the Jewish race, and killed some 6 million of them. Yet still they survived!!

Now the fact that the Jews are back in their land as a nation is acknowledged amongst historians and scholars as being miraculous. A tiny nation that has gone through all that we've mentioned should not have been able to survive. But it has. The reason for this is that the nation of Israel is God's people. But what is equally amazing is that this history of the Jews was accurately prophesied in the Bible, long before it happened, and we'll look at just some of the many passages...
