B5. Have you loved God and Jesus?
If you’ve REALLY loved God and Jesus, you can be confident.
God wants us to follow his commands, not out of fear, but because we love Him. We show that we love Him when we treat other people with selfless love, and also when we try keep God's “word” or commands as shown to us in the Bible. If we can honestly say that we've loved God, tried to keep His commandments, and prayed for forgiveness when we've failed or sinned (as everyone does), then we can be confident that at the Judgement we will be saved, and given eternal life with Jesus.
Read 1 John 4 v 12 to 21, and particularly note what v 17 says. We’ll pick out the key bits for you:
12 …If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
16 …God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment.
20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
Also 1 John 2 v 5, 6:
"But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked."
... 1 John 1 v 5, 6:
"This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness (sin) at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness (sin), we lie and do not practice the truth."
...and verse 9: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
