A3. Horrific Scenes in Israel
The story continues in the book of Zechariah, chapter 13. Verse 8 tells us:
"And it shall come to pass in all the land," Says the LORD, "That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die, but one-third shall be left in it:".
The phrase “the land” in the Bible refers to the land of Israel. So Gog and its allies will kill two thirds of the people of Israel. And what will happen to the remaining third who survive?
Verse 9 of Zechariah 13 tells us:
"I will bring the one-third through the fire, will refine them as silver is refined, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; and each one will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’"
So the remaining third of people will be tested or tried to their limit until they are forced to call out to God for help. And what is this testing that will happen. Look at the next chapter in Zechariah.
Chapter 14 v 2 reads: “For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; the city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.”
So some appallingly horrific things will happen in Jerusalem to those Jews who survive the first wave of deaths. We’ll leave your imaginations to work out what sort of sickening things will happen. Half the population of Jerusalem will be taken captive by Gog and its allies.
